How can we help you today?

Can I use a Model Portfolio to manage my own portfolio?

Model Portfolios in Stock Doctor are designed to help you understand different systematic investment strategies, compare approaches, and track how model portfolios perform over time. They are not connected to your personal Stock Doctor portfolio and do not automatically trade on your behalf.

If you are looking to follow a model portfolio, use the same percentage weighting figures, seen in the current holdings tab.  The exception is for non-rebalanced portfolios. In these cases, begin with an equal allocation to each stock. The current weights reflect movements since the portfolio’s inception—when positions were initially equally weighted—and have since diverged due to market performance.

What Model Portfolios are designed for

  • Researching how different systematic strategies select and weight stocks
  • Comparing the performance of Quant rules-based and AI machine-learning approaches
  • Tracking current holdings and changes at each rebalance as a reference point for your own research
  • Understanding how Financial Health screening and factor-based ranking works in practice

What Model Portfolios are not designed for

  • Model Portfolios do not automatically buy or sell stocks in your personal portfolio
  • They are not connected to any brokerage account or trading platform
  • They are not personalised to your financial situation, goals, or risk tolerance
  • They do not constitute financial advice or a recommendation to buy or sell any security

How members use Model Portfolios in their research

Some members use Model Portfolios as a starting point for their own research, for example, reviewing the Current Holdings tab to identify stocks that meet both Financial Health and growth criteria, then conducting their own analysis before making any investment decisions.

The Latest Changes tab shows what stocks have been added or removed in the past 3 months. You can enter your own portfolio value to see indicative position sizes, but these are illustrative only and do not represent a recommended trade.

Important information

All investment decisions are your own. Past notional performance of a Model Portfolio is not a reliable indicator of future performance. Before making any investment decision, consider your personal circumstances and seek independent financial advice if needed.
