How to setup Two-Factor Authentication

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) is designed to enhance the security of your Stock Doctor account. This additional layer of protection ensures that your account remains secure, even if your password is compromised.

Below is a comprehensive guide to help you set up and manage 2FA seamlessly on both desktop and mobile devices.

Overview

What is Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)?

2FA adds an extra layer of security to your login process, requiring two forms of identification: your password and a unique 6-digit code generated by a trusted authentication app. This significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized access.

How to Get Started

Enabling Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

  • Navigate to www.stockdoctor.com.au
  • Enter your username and password.
  • Click Login

  • Click your username, located in the top blue toolbar (right corner)
  • Select Two-Factor Authentication
  • Download an authenticator application to your phone
    • Before you can enable Multifactor Authentication on your Stock Doctor account, you'll need to install the Authenticator app (e.g. Google Authenticator) on your smartphone or tablet device.
    • Google's official documentation on downloading and installing the app can be found here:
Get verification codes with Google Authenticator
  • The Google Authenticator app can be downloaded from your device's App Store :
  • Once an authenticator application is installed, use the Authenticator app to Scan your unique QR code on screen:
      • Open the Authenticator app
      • Click the "+" in the lower right corner.
      • Then, Scan your unique QR code on screen.
      • Alternatively, you enter the 16-digit secret key shown below the QR code into the app manually.
  • When the Authenticator app displays a 6-digit passcode, enter it in the "Verify the code from the app" field.
    • Click the Validate button and Stock Doctor's server is synced to your device.
  • You then see a ‘Thank you, your account is now protected with two-factor authentication.’ confirmation box appear.

  • Click Next to access your recovery codes
    • Recovery codes can be used to access your account in the event you lose access to your device and cannot receive two-factor authentication codes.
  • Click View your recovery codes to access your authenticator recovery codes.
    • We recommend you write them down and keep them in a safe spot or save them within your password manager.
    • These codes are the last resort for accessing your account in case you lose second factors. If you cannot find these codes, you will lose access to your account.
  • Click Back to Two-Factor Authentication link once you have recorded codes

  • If you suspect your account may be compromised (for example if you have lost your phone or mobile device), and you're using Google Authenticator, you can use the Regenerate Key button to invalidate the old key and create a new one.

Disabling Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

  • Enter your username and password.
  • Click your username, located in the top blue toolbar (right corner)
