I notice that the dividend for an interim period looks quite large. Is this correct?

When reviewing a company, you may notice the company's interim dividend looks different than what was previously declared.

There is a simple explanation for this. The DPS (dividend per share) figure on the 9 Golden Rules screen is actually an annualised figure, taking into account dividends that have been received over the previous 12 months, and not just the last six month figure.

This makes it easier for the interim dividend to be compared to the annualised EPS (earnings per share) and history of annual dividend payments. It is also consistent with the dividend yield calculation which is also an annual figure.
